Final race of the Open de España Maxxis 2008 of DH

Last DH race of the Open de España Maxxis 2008 has taken place last weekend in Galdakao. This year we have had a great number of riders and times have been very closed. The sun has shone all the weekend and best riders have improved David Vázquez last year time, which was 3’16”.

All the riders have made two sleeves and that is why they had two opportunities to win in their category.

In M40 category, Enric Galera (LTM BEST) has been the winner in Galdakao and the winner of the Open. In Galdakao, in second and third position there were Javier Pascual (CC BMX ALCOY) and Juan Fco.  Vicente (VILA BIKE).

In M30 category, José Manuel Verdia (BICI O-CON) has been the best and the leader of the general classification.

Victoria Hernández (AMBISIST) didn’t have any rival and she is the winner of the Open.

With a great number of participants, in cadet category, the gold medal has been for Cristian Curbelo (BIKE PARK TENERIFE). In second and third position we could see Mari Pérez (CC CICLES AB CASTELLO) and Íñigo Palmero (LA BICICLETA-CONSULTEC). The winner of the Open has been Mario Pérez.

In junior category, Antonio Ferreiro has been the winner of this race and of the Open. In second and third position there were Iago Garay (TREK-GUAK) and Xavier Cabau (DEVINCI-XMS).

On of the most popular categories has been senior. In first position there was José Antonio Díez (NOJA-CANALSA); however, the winner of the Open has been Matías Diego Rodríguez (MALAGANSTA DOWNHILL).

Finally, the most waited moment arrived: elite race. With an excellent time, Bernat Guàrdia (MsC Bikes) has been the winner of this race, with a time of 3’09”605, followed by his team mate Arnau Sugrañes who had a time of two tenths more than Bernat. Third position has been for Jorge Aguín (LTMRACING-SANTA CRUZ) and the winner of the Open has been Bernat Guàrdia followed by Arnau Sugrañes and Pasqual Canals (MASSI).

This is the end of the Open de España Maxxis 2008. We hope you have enjoyed this championship. See you soon!

At 12 o’clock the elite, sub23 and senior race has started. There were six riders who could be the final winners. In the first lap Sergio Mantecón was first followed by Martí Gispert (ECP-TAU) who was the leader until that moment. It was impossible to know who would win the final. In the second lap Martí Gispert lost some places and Juan Pedro Trujillo (Cemelorca-Seguros10.com) was in second position. As he is the team mate of Sergio Mantecón, he decided to help him winning the race. Finally, Rubén Ruzafa (Orbea) in second position followed by Alejandro Díaz de la Peña (Extremadura- Specialized) and Martí Gispert ended in fourth position.
